What is frustrating during the Paris boat show is to be locked indoor! Indeed, it is difficult to change the atmosphere of a large Parisian hangar into that of a nice harbour and to see the lines of the boat on the water.

This is especially true when launching a new Lagoon 39 as a truly innovative* catamaran which everyone expects to be tested at sea .

Exclusively for you, here are the first images of the Lagoon 39 under sail. This short video was filmed by me (so do not expect a professional quality) just before the show at Les Sables d’Olonne. Conditions in the morning were a 20-25 knot north-easterly wind with a short swell of 1m to 1.50m. Photos were taken in the afternoon with 10 knots of wind which allowed us to set a code 0, a perfect sail for light wind which allows this pretty Lagoon 39 to reach a 100 m² + sail area!

* The major innovation being a completely new type of rig on a cruising catamaran.

Nothing is done for the moment, the boat will be in sea trial for the next two months. What I can tell you is during the afternoon of this photo shooting, with the code 0 and around 10 knots of wind, the boat was doing around 7 knots at 50°-60° of true wind. Not too bad!

What was the true wind speed and angle while using the self-tacking jib? The leading edge of the port bow came out of the water a bit which indicates plenty of weight aft and/or buoyancy forward. Very exciting! Knowing the boat speed at the time is also of interest.

How well does it point? I am not the only one hoping that it points better than the 380 and 400.

Thanks for all the information on the new Lagoon 39. Where else will we be able to see it and/or sail it? I live in the U.S. and missed the Paris boat show. Hopefully it will make it to the Miami boat show in February!

Now that you’re back to work, some additional details on the Lagoon 39 would be great. Or do we have to wait until the sea trials are completed?
