“Alternative” boating: 6 interesting websites
|15 October 2014||Posted by Alex from Lagoon under Travel & Cruising world|
Why don’t we go surfing today? OK! But on the web! You may have noticed in some boat shows or in the nautical press, these new websites which offer collaborative boating service. I met the founders of three of them:
With over 25,000 members, VogAvecMoi offers a new way to sail: boat-sharing. From simple day sailing to long cruises, the idea is to share your boat.
– Boat owners with a desire to share boating experience and to reduce costs
– Sea lovers who cannot necessarily afford to buy a boat and want to become a “crew” (note that boat-sharing requires some knowledge of sailing)
What I loved: the diversity of available boats
Click & Boat
You may know the AirBnB website by which homeowners rent out their house to vacationers. Well, imagine the same concept but with a boat. Click & Boat offers boat rentals between private individuals. The rental exists in three different forms: rental, boat-sharing and docked rental.
– Boat owners wishing to make their boats profitable by offering to rent out (ideal to pay marina and maintenance fees)
– Travelers wishing to enjoy a boat rental at attractive prices
What I loved: the one day multi-risk insurance service and the boat docked rental concept (rather original as accommodation!)
Launched in November 2013 by two sailing lover friends, this website aims at democratizing sailing by establishing a contact between skippers (selected by Skippair) and individuals.
– All those who dream of going offshore but without much sailing experience and without spending a fortune.
What I loved: thematic cruise. Beyond sailing, some skippers offer to discover other activities: wine, golf, hiking…
Can we find catamarans? Of course, you’ll even have a lot of choice!
As I write, these websites are only intended for French speaking people since they are not yet translated into English. But according to my latest information, the English version of the VogAvecMoi website will soon see the day! Same for Click & Boat that would provide even a translation into Spanish, Portuguese and German. Watch this space …
If you don’t speak French, don’t worry! The web is full of other websites…
