I was talking about inflatable stand up paddles a few weeks ago, but I would like to introduce the inflatable dinghy today! Yes, it is now possible to take your dinghy everywhere. Presented 2 years ago by the Breton brand TIWAL, the inflatable dinghy is a little revolution. Besides, the invention won the “Boat of the Year 2014” innovation Award organized by the American magazine “Sailing World”.
3.20m long, 1.60m wide, a 5,20m² sail area (or optional 7m²) … and yet it fits in two 1.50m long bags.
One contains the hull (26 kg), the other everything else i.e. the sail, the rigging, the frame … (28 kg). According to the builder, only 20 minutes are necessary to assemble the boat. Concerning price, plan to pay between about 5500€ and 6530€. The price differs according to the selected mainsail area.
A short video of the dinghy in question:
And the inflatable catamaran? Did someone think about it? Yes, and you’ve actually so much choice that you could get lost. For example, you have the Smartkat which comes from Austria and the Happy Cat offered by the German brand Grabner.
The Happy Cat
Find below a chart, useful to compare the base model’s features of these atypical catamarans.
Tip: you can change the catamaran into a tender by fitting an outboard engine at the rear
