A new speed record!

Whilst the New Zealanders’ team has just achieved an overwhelming victory against their American opponents at the America’s Cup last month, other catamarans stand out, in the cruising world, this time, by their beautiful performances under sail.
This is the case of the Lagoon 52 S “GreatCircle”, recently acquired by the Dutch owners, Marijke and Mark, at the beginning of the year. Indeed, it is during her conveyance from Bordeaux on the way to La Grande Motte that the 52 S, freshly out of the yard, explodes her speed record. 27.2 knots at 7’29 on the video: this is the exceptional speed that can be read on the dashboard of this boat when she crosses the Strait of Gibraltar, with the Dutch crew and the skipper, Florian, aboard. In order to anticipate the passage in tough weather conditions announcing up to 50 knots of wind, the skipper had slumped the jib and put two reefs in the mainsail. Marijke, confident, confesses: “while outside, it felt like the apocalypse, inside, we felt completely safe and in complete comfort; We were even able to prepare diner while contemplating this extraordinary show!”.
Relive these intense moments on the video of their feat below:
